If you are looking for a small but hip hotel in Old Town Scottsdale, you should definitely check out the Scott Resort and Spa. From the vintage Chevy? parked in front, to the curated Cuban Themed art around the property, every detail was meticulously executed.
We arrived in the early evening and were able to grab a Tesla charger for our Turo (link)-huge win that we didn’t need to find a super charger! The entrance of the hotel was so beautiful and featured grand fountains and a Robin’s egg blue and white Chevy Bel Aire branded with the Canal Club logo on it. There was a row of bikes parked in front for guests’ usage and a black SUV offering free shuttle service anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel.
As we walked in, the atmosphere felt clean and modern but with Vintage Hollywood vibes. It felt like the Beverly Hills hotel with a Latin American twist. Check-in was quick and easy. We got a standard King room with a view of the pool. I liked that you could choose top or bottom floor. There are no elevators so be aware you will need to haul luggage up stairs or get a bell person to assist if you choose the upper floor.
Inside the lobby was an array of cozy seating nooks featuring a mix of wicker peacock chairs, leather low profile sofas and stone tables. There were vintage wooden games on some of the tables and a hip bar at the back with a pink neon sign reading Canal Club-the perfect spot to grab a fun vintage style cocktail and relax or socialize.
We were staying in the (Cabana?) Rooms, so we made our way out through the back of the lobby and around the pools. The grounds were so cool! Booth-like lounging nooks lay right outside the door with bar service and glowing chandeliers, adding a bit of romance. The pool was right outside the lobby and was surrounded rock waterfalls, vintage style umbrellas and cabanas with day beds. There was a bridge separating the two pool areas and you could swim from one to the other by passing under it. The pool in front of our room had a sandy beach entrance, which would be perfect for kids, although we did not see any kids while we were there.
We made our way up to or room on the second floor, which was our preference. It was absolutely perfect. We loved all of the little details, from the vintage mini bar cart in the foyer to the seersucker striped Frette robe in the bathrobe. It was definitely an experience. The room had a spacious balcony with two Adirondack style chairs facing the pools-perfect for lounging and reading or enjoying a morning coffee. The bed was comfortable and featured a bench at the foot to spread your luggage and a flat screen smart TV. Room service was available but we decided to get dressed up (resort casual with linen and woven to match the vibe) and head down to the restaurant, which served a lot of the same things but with a fun and stylish atmosphere.
We walked up to the Canal Club restaurant, and asked to be seated outside. It was a perfect warm evening and the ambiance of the pool and the twinkle lights from the restaurant were spectacular. I was feeling like I needed a little detox, so I ordered a cocktail of soda, lime and a splash of cranberry for color, in a large wine glass…a cocktail my girlfriend Maggie loves to get. Joe ordered his usual extra dirty martini with extra olives for his wife (best husband ever). The cocktails were perfect and we decided on a light dinner from the salad menu-I ordered the squash, pomegranate salad with salmon added (to die for) and Joe ordered the Cobb with steak (also awesome). We finished with a cappuccino and split the rum cake…which was moist, covered in dried pineapples and served a la mode….soooooooo good and you have to get it if you love rum cake.
After dinner we strolled around and found a pond with what look like ruins, maybe simulating a bombed Cuban fortress? There was a fire pit area next to the pond where one could enjoy cigars, which were available for purchase in the lobby. Everywhere we walked we stumbled upon more romantic lounging areas featuring wicker pendant lights. We also came across a lawn with games like giant Jenga, Connect four and corn hole-a dream for couples and large groups alike. We tossed the bags for a bit then went back to the room to go to sleep.
We only had one night at the hotel so we didn’t get to experience the pool or spa, but we are definitely coming back and staying longer…to find out and report back, of course! We had an unforgettable experience at the Scott Resort and would highly recommend it for a great value, clean, comfortable and fun environment.
